3D WEBGIS FOR DIGITAL CULTURAL HERITAGE_ THE TURIN 1911 PROJECT
Abstract
Documenting of Cultural Heritage (CH) is crucial for its preservation and study, especially for dismantled structures like those in World's Fairs; however, limited efforts are undertaken by national and international conservation and research institutions. While 3D digital models thrive in CH, webGIS remains underexplored and unutilized as research tool; besides, their integration with BIM models is not straightforward. The Turin 1911 project pioneers virtual documentation, recreation, and study of a World's Fair, combining digital technologies (geo-DB, 3D models and 3D webGIS) with cataloging standards. This initiative advances Digital Humanities by sharing information online. This paper presents 3D web apps developed for Turin 1911, addressing challenges, and presenting a tailored procedure. BIM models are integrated into web apps to visualize ephemeral architectures. This study discusses webGIS as a sharing platform and a 3D environment for Digital Humanities research. This paper is a reinterpretation and translation into Italian of the English paper (Spreafico, Chiabrando, & Della Coletta, 2023).
